You\u2019ll experience the best scenery and riding terrain in the Valley as well as insight into the area\u2019s agriculture and history. The event provides downloadable maps for riders of all abilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Alpine Loop Gran Fondo<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2020 <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/alpineloopgranfondo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alpine Loop Gran Fondo<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> normally welcomes cyclists to Harrisonburg, Virginia for an exciting weekend of rides and events. However, to keep riders and spectators safe, the September 27 event is \u201cbeing transformed into a combination of decentralized real-world challenges and virtual competitions under the banner of the 2020 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo\u201d that will support causes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Shenandoah Fall Foliage Festival<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The in-person 2020 <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/shenandoahbike.org\/?v=7516fd43adaa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shenandoah Fall Foliage Bike Festival<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been cancelled for health and safety reasons.The Staunton festival is still dedicated to supporting local charities, and you can help by purchasing festival products.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Events and Races at Massanutten Resort<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Massanutten Resort\u2019s 2020 mountain biking <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.massresort.com\/play\/mountain-biking\/events-races\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">events and races<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been postponed for the season. They will resume when regulations allow.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Biking with the Family<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re looking for a family outing that will please even the youngest members of your crew, try one of these easy, family-friendly rides.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Mountain View and Grand Caverns Parks<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">20 minutes from <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stablecraftbrewing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stable Craft Brewing<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grottoes has a terrific park system for family biking. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ci.grottoes.va.us\/mountain-view-park.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Mountain View<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandcaverns.com\/parks.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Grand Caverns<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Parks sit at opposite ends of town. Each has ample parking, river and mountain views and mostly flat loop trails of about a mile and a quarter each. Better yet, the parks are connected by a clearly marked bike trail\/sidewalk leading through the quiet town.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Chessie Nature Trail<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5 minutes from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dbbrewingcompany.com\/locations\/outpost\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Devils Backbone Outpost<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally a railroad bed for the Chesapeake &amp; Ohio Railroad, the flat <\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vmi.edu\/about\/for-visitors\/chessie-trail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chessie Nature Trail<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stretches for 7.2 miles between Lexington and Buena Vista and is great for riders of all ages and abilities. The route has parking at both ends and can be completed as a longer out-and-back ride. It follows the Maury River and the rural surroundings alternate between wooded areas and farmland. The final mile near Buena Vista parallels a steep cliff along the river. Look for cows and wildlife along the way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\" id=\"cr-embed-6fa4ab4e6b05cbe21ff9c8c1\" src=\"https:\/\/post.crowdriff.com\/js\/crowdriff.js\" async><\/script><\/p>\n<h3><strong>South River Greenway<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10 minutes from <\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sevenarrowsbrewing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seven Arrows Brewing<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.waynesboro.va.us\/226\/South-River-Greenway\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">South River Greenway<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> trail system will one day connect Waynesboro\u2019s Constitution Park with Ridgeview Park and eventually the Crozet Tunnel. For now, the trail stretches for 1.2 miles along the South River and connects Constitution Park with the YMCA. The short ride is flat and paved, and the scenery provides interest as it varies from river to industrial to park, making it suitable for even the youngest of cyclists. You can park at either end of the Greenway.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Bluestone Trail<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5 minutes from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/threenotchdbrewing.com\/harrisonburg-valley-collab-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Three Notch&#8217;d Valley Collab House<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtbproject.com\/trail\/7028027\/bluestone-trail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bluestone Trail<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a short, sweet ride through Harrisonburg\u2019s <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harrisonburgva.gov\/purcell-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Purcell Park<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jmu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>JMU<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> campus. At 1.4 miles each way, it\u2019s a great way to get youngsters feeling comfortable on their wheels. Plus, there are green spaces to explore when you get off your bike!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Road Biking<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For amazing road biking routes in the area, check out <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bikethevalley.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Bike the Valley<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which maps and details different routes at different distances and for varying skill levels. Here are some of our favorites:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\" id=\"cr-embed-05e141359b8e1aa1fd72acf5\" src=\"https:\/\/post.crowdriff.com\/js\/crowdriff.js\" async><\/script><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Buena Vista \u2013 Blue Ridge Parkway<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">15 minutes from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/heliotropebrew\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Heliotrope Brewery<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re serious about earning your beer, take on the challenge of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ridewithgps.com\/routes\/13332242\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Buena Vista \u2013 Blue Ridge Parkway<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ride and its 4,000-foot plus elevation gain. This route is considered difficult due to its relentless hills and 45-mile length, and you\u2019ll earn major bragging rights if you complete it. Starting in Buena Vista, you\u2019ll quickly begin the arduous task of hauling human and bike four miles up to the crest of the Blue Ridge. Don\u2019t celebrate the end of your workout yet, however, because the stunning Blue Ridge Parkway has serious hills of its own. When it\u2019s time to come down, you\u2019ll be descending a very steep and twisty road to Vesuvius. The grade is steeper than 20% in places, but the final few miles back to town are relatively gentle. Though demanding, this ride is also extremely beautiful. Make sure you enjoy the view, especially along the parkway.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Waynesboro Dooms Day Loop<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3 minutes from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basiccitybeer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Basic City Beer Co<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because of its distance and limited elevation gain, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ridewithgps.com\/routes\/13374391\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Waynesboro Dooms Day Loop<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (12.5 miles) is considered easy to intermediate. It begins and ends in downtown Waynesboro, but heads out of town following the river for three miles before turning at the Dooms Crossing Railroad stop and returning along the base of the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains. The second half of this ride is mostly gentle downhill, but you\u2019ll still deserve a beer treat for finishing.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Staunton Frog Pond Smoky Row<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 minute from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/redbeardbrews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Redbeard Brewing Company<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For an intermediate ride, try the 22-mile <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ridewithgps.com\/routes\/12697633\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Staunton Frog Pond Smoky Row<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> route. It starts in Staunton but quickly leaves to embrace the rolling hills and spectacular scenery west and south of town. The loop offers sustained climbs, downhill glides, and recovery sections. The ride, which is entirely on paved roads, concludes back in Staunton.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Mountain Biking<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you get your thrills from trails and hills, the following rides are sure to make your quads burn!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\" id=\"cr-embed-2442af75f8a0d38ef0351d56\" src=\"https:\/\/post.crowdriff.com\/js\/crowdriff.js\" async><\/script><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Montgomery Hall Park<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5 minutes from <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shenvalbrew.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shenandoah Valley Brewing Co.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Riders looking for thrills in Staunton need go no further than <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ci.staunton.va.us\/departments\/parks-recreation-\/parks\/montgomery-hall-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montgomery Hall Park<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which boasts 4.1 miles of single track laid out in three marked trails. The twisting trails offer switchbacks and roots as well as steep drops and climbs. There\u2019s not much in the way of rock obstacles, but you can still get plenty dirty here. Since the trails are maintained by Staunton Parks and Recreation as well as local riders, they stay in excellent condition.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Southern Traverse<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">35 minutes from <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/skippingrockbeer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Skipping Rock Beer Co.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hard-core mountain bikers rave about <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtbproject.com\/trail\/169815\/southern-traverse-imba-epic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Southern Traverse<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a 36-mile ride through the Dry River and Deerfield Ranger Districts of George Washington National Forest. This route will blast you with over 3,000 feet of elevation gain, much of it in the first four blistering miles. Once you summit Shenandoah Mountain, there\u2019s an incredible 11-mile single track ride along the ridge, several extremely technical rocky areas, and a thrilling five-mile section that descends over 1,100 feet. The final section of the route follows rolling country roads, so you\u2019ll be able to get your heart rate under control before heading back to town.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\" id=\"cr-embed-6b0e49d99c58fdf8d1b8e55f\" src=\"https:\/\/post.crowdriff.com\/js\/crowdriff.js\" async><\/script><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Massanutten\u2019s Mountain Bike Park<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">15 minutes from <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cavehillfarmsbrewery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cave Hill Farms Brewery<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For an adventure guaranteed to spike your adrenaline, grab your mountain bike and hurtle down the ski lift-served trails at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.massresort.com\/play\/mountain-biking\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Massanutten\u2019s Mountain Bike Park<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You\u2019ll get the thrills of the downhill without sweating the climbs. Cross country riders (who don\u2019t mind tackling the uphills) will enjoy the 30+ miles of trails on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.massresort.com\/play\/mountain-biking\/western-slope\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Western Slope<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.The park offers trails for riders of all abilities, lift ticket options, lessons and bike rentals. Don\u2019t forget your action camera! The park is part of the Virginia Treasures Program, which celebrates public recreation lands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\" id=\"cr-embed-d46897a69c43549fca89b358\" src=\"https:\/\/post.crowdriff.com\/js\/crowdriff.js\" async><\/script><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Rocktown Trails at Hillandale Park<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10 minutes from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.palefirebrewing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Pale Fire Brewing<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re looking to give your mountain bike a workout in downtown Harrisonburg, check out <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harrisonburgva.gov\/rocktown-trails\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rocktown Trails at Hillandale Park<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The park\u2019s system of stacked-loop, single track trails offers three levels of difficulty for riders. The easiest route is beginner-friendly, but the loops get more challenging if you\u2019re looking for tougher stuff.\u00a0 The trails, cared for by the Shenandoah Valley Bike Club, stay in great shape and feature manmade and natural obstacles. Be prepared to share this popular area with hikers and runners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail pairs the craft beer experience with a combination of activities and attractions that uniquely reflect the region\u2019s recreational and cultural activities.
